Clarence Seedorf
33 year old Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf appears to have ended any speculation over a possible return to the Dutch national side for next summer's World Cup.
The vastly experienced player has enjoyed a successful spell at AC Milan since 2002 and has represented Holland in the 1998 World Cup and the 1996, 2000 and 2004 European Championships. However, following disagreements with then Holland coach Marco Van Basten, Seedorf decided to announce his retirement from international football in May 2008.
In an interview with Elf Voetbal, Seedorf explained "My retirement was purely to do with the situation at that moment. It gnawed at me for some time that it did not matter how I performed in Italy. On the other hand, I had the ambition to once again tackle the great prize of World Cup."
The Dutchman said "Now that the Netherlands is debating whether or not I should return to Orange (Holland national team), I decided to clarify things myself.
"The coach does not call me. My career with the national team is closed. I still feel similar to how I did under Van Basten."
