According to The Sun, Arsenal are weighing up a £14 million bid for Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill .

The 24-year-old showed his readiness for a big move by saying earlier this month, "If a big team wanted me to come and play for them, then you have got to be realistic and look at the fact it may be a right decision for both sides.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to have a summer war chest to strengthen his squad with a centre-back one of his top priorities.  Although Thomas Vermaelen enjoyed an extremely successful first season with the Gunners, the futures of aging defenders Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and William Gallas appear less certain.

The Sun claims that Gunners’ boss Wenger is a big admirer of Cahill and although Bolton manager Owen Coyle does not intend on losing the England under-21 international, there may be little he can do to prevent the lure of Champions League football.

The Sun reports that Bolton will ask for at least £14 million from Arsenal to secure Cahill’s signature.  Cahill scored five goals in 29 appearances for Bolton last season.
