Arsenal are reportedly back in the hunt for Werder Bremen centre-back Per Mertesacker .

The Gunners were heavily linked with the 26-year-old in the summer and were said to have made a bid for the defender, but Werder were adamant that he was not for sale.

However, according to German sources, the Gunners have now come back with an offer of around €10 million.

And Werder are now said to be willing to sell the big centre-half, as long as they find a replacement.

Mertsacker not a bad idea i think Arsenal need a good player like him he's strong & especially really big.Thats a good think about a player especially a defender like him.im a CHELSEA FAN .But i support ARSENAL & i hope they do sign him.i really don't know why Arsenal let S.Campbell go away again. He came back but Wenger didint have trust on him anymore. He was a great defender if not probably the Best defender Arsenal has had.

Arsenal needs good scouts, they've been buying aargh, recently
Hola,December 30, 2010
@ Rod∗BluE 4Life∗ .....The truth be told Sol Campbell lost his extra miles and he was not at his usual best or I doubt ability to reach his previous best.....End

I too like Mertesacker to be transfer if possibly during the January period (The boss knew better) but he will not be a saviour to the current set-pieces defending problem....Wenger need to assign a coaching staff (if they don't get one fast) to teach the skills to defend set pieces...Easy said then done but I trust Wenger to sort out this problem soon.

I'd rather have Howedes. I think Mertesacker might be too slow for EPL.
Tim,January 03, 2011
@ Tim.....I don't fully agreed with you as he is not that slow as you claimed.....He has good positioning(very important for a defender), able to cut-off high set-pieces (important for all EPL matches), play out from the back and pass a direct through ball to attackers (useful for fast counter-attacks)......Is he not a extremely good or your sake loser defender? Wenger never pick up a player if his scouts shows glowing reports of his matches

I think Mertesacker is nt Bad,but a ruthless defender like Gary Cahill or Christpher Samba will be ideal, esp. In the absence of Vermalen
