Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish insists that he is happy with his attacking options, despite failing to sign a striker during the transfer window.

Blues were linked with the likes of Kenwyne Jones , Ryan Babel and in particular Tottenham's want-away striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

McLeish made no secret of his plans to add to his current strike force of Cameron Jerome, Christian Benitez, James McFadden and Kevin Phillips , who have managed only ten goals between them this season.

Yet the Birmingham City boss said, “I have total trust in these players who have been excellent in the first half of the season in getting us to where we are.

“On the striker front we now have to go forward with Cameron, Chucho, James and Kevin and we will do exactly that.

Explaining why there were no new attacking arrivals at St Andrews, McLeish explained, “Just because we didn’t capture any of those players in this window I was not prepared to just sign anyone for the sake of it.

“Morally and financially that wouldn’t be right with the long-term vision that we have.

“There were a few players put in to me that have had good reputations but are well into their 30s but to bring one of them in would be an insult to the likes of Kevin Phillips ."
