James Rodriguez - from Banfield to FC Porto

The 19-year-old Colombian left winger signed a four-year deal with FC Porto , joining the Portuguese giants for € 5.1 million. This exciting player is set for a bright future in the game, and his playing style is reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo. He was only 14 when he debuted in the Colombian league, he starred in the Argentinean league last season, and his transfer to a Portuguese-speaking environment should help him adapt to European football and demonstrate his massive talent quite quickly.

Javier Hernandez - from Chivas Guadalajara to Manchester United

The first Mexican to play for Manchester United , 22-year-old Chicarito is a true gem. United paid €10 million for his transfer and his market value is sure to sky-rocket in the near future, with Hernandez brimming with more confidence from day to day. This immensely talented youngster could well develop into another Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He is a versatile striker with outstanding positional sense, timing, marvelous movement and anticipation combined with pace, technique and highly impressive heading ability. His international record is rare for a player of his age, and this season could very well see him become one of Ferguson's best-ever surprise signings.

Franco Jara - from Arsenal de Sarandi to Benfica Lisbon

The 22-year-old striker has cost Benfica €5.5 million, but his potential is so high that the Portuguese outfit could very well recoup a lot of money from selling him on in the future. This wonderful, energetic attacker can play either in the supporting or target-man role, and can even feature as a winger or attacking midfielder. He is blessed with excellent technique on the ball, highly impressive acceleration and pace and great movement – Jara is so unpredictable that he is a constant threat on goal. With his move to a Portuguese-speaking environment and with Benfica being an excellent place for youngsters to develop, we can expect to hear a lot more on Jara in the coming years.

Nicolas Gaitan - from Boca Juniors to Benfica

Benfica paid no less than €8.4 million to secure the signing of this exciting attacker from Argentinean giants Boca. Blessed with amazing acceleration and pace plus brilliant dribbling technique, the left-footed Gaitan is very comfortable playing as a left or right winger. However, he is so talented and creative, that he can also play as attacking central midfielder. His shooting abilities are also of a very high caliber, clearly demonstrated last season when he played as a support striker. With improvements to his heading and his physical strength, Gaitan is sure to become one of Benfica 's most interesting signings of recent years.

Marco Perez - from Boyaca Chico to Real Zaragoza

After spending last season on loan at Argentinean side Gimansia, the 19-year-old Colombian striker signed a two-year loan deal with Spanish side Zaragoza, and it appears to have been very shrewd move by the La Liga his side. At Zaragoza, Marco Perez is sure to receive his much-needed playing time in order to develop and fulfill his high potential. This powerful, extremely fast support striker possesses highly impressive shooting technique and excellent dribbling ability. With his array of skills, he only needs to get his head right, improve his concentration and become more tactically aware before he develops into a world-class striker. This season, Perez may well be one of the biggest surprises of the Spanish league.
