The agent of veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has rubbished rumours that the 32-year-old will move to Manchester United .

With Edwin Van der Sar expected to retire at the end of the season, Manchester United will be searching for a new number one.  Sir Alex Ferguson shows little sign that he believes current back-up Tomasz Kuszczak can take over the mantle and so Buffon has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time.

Buffon has won 95 caps for Italy in a distinguished career and is now in his tenth year at Juventus although he is currently injured.

Italian daily Tuttosport reports that Manchester United are supposedly prepared to pay 18 million euros for Buffon.  But the player’s agent Silvano Martina told calciomercato.it, “I do not know who could get a rumour like this...This is nonsense. Buffon is out for three months, who wants an injured player?”
