Freddy Adu
Hull City are preparing to make a surprise move for American star Freddy Adu , who is currently contracted to Portugese giants Benfica.
Adu burst onto the scene as a 14 year-old, making his debut in the Major League Soccer for DC United. He was considered one of the hottest prospects in world football, but has so far failed to live up to the billing.
The attacker moved to Benfica in 2007 but has failed to make a real impact and has been loaned to fellow Portugese side Belenenses this season. However, he has made only a handful of appearances during his loan spell and is yet to find the net.
Hull City manager Phil Brown is desperate to boost his attacking options as the Tigers face a relegation scrap during the second half of the Premier League season. The News of the World reports that Benfica would be prepared to accept a £1.5m bid for Adu from Hull City .
With the World Cup on the horizon, Adu would likely welcome a Premier League move to boost his chances of selection. He has already scored 2 goals in 10 games for the US national team.
