Schalke 04 goalkeeper is on the verge of signing for Manchester United , according to the News of the World.

Old Trafford goalkeeping coach Eric Steele reportedly recommended Neuer to Sir Alex Ferguson as a possible replacement for Edwin Van der Sar and the German keeper has been a target ever since.

Schalke are demanding around £10million for their young star, but United are prepared to pay that price.

39 year old Van der Sar is set to decide on his future in the coming weeks, with his retirement from the game a possibility.  However, even if the veteran keeper does decide to play for another season, Neuer is still at the top of Ferguson's hit list.  The Dutch legend has managed only 7 appearances this season as United look for a long term replacement.

The anticipated arrival of Neuer will place serious question marks over the future of England's World Cup hopeful Ben Foster and current No2 Tomas Kuszczak.

Schalke keeper Neuer was voted best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga in 2007, already has 2 international caps to his name and starred at the summer's European under -21 championship.  A high profile move to United would likely boost his chances of selection for this summer's World Cup.

Van der sar already signed a one year extension to his career, that has the answer to this move. This will not happen.

You're not well informed! Schalke rejected an offer of 18,5 Millions plus the goalkeeper Rensing from Bayern Munich! Why should Schalke let him go for just £10million ?! Also the Schalke manager Felix Magath said that Manuel Neuer is unsaleable!
