Real Madrid are ready to use Karim Benzema as a makeweight to clinch a deal for Manchester United 's Nemanja Vidic , according to the Manchester Evening News.

Vidic’s agent has hinted that the centre-back could leave Old Trafford after the World Cup.

There has been speculation over Vidic’s United future for several months following rumours of a disagreement with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, frustration over Vidic’s injury problems and his wife’s reported unhappiness in Manchester. However, the Serbian defender still managed to play 31 games for Manchester United last season, scoring one goal.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has been chasing Benzema for some time.

The Frenchman rejected a move to Manchester United last summer to join Real Madrid but has struggled for first-team opportunities due to injury and the incredible form of Gonzalo Higuain.

The 22-year-old scored nine goals in 32 appearances for Real Madrid last season, but his lack of first team action lead to his exclusion from Raymond Domenech’s French World Cup squad.

Rubbish story if Higuain next season goes off form or gets injured who will we have to step in and score the goals. Benzema we want to keep him give him a second season and we will see him back to his best and we will get the best out of him.
