According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City have denied having any interest in Everton defender John Heitinga , despite the Dutch defender's claims that he is wanted at Eastlands.

26-year-old Heitinga enjoyed an impressive first season at Everton, having been signed by Toffees' boss David Moyes from Atletico Madrid last summer. Heitinga has been named in Holland's World Cup squad and his versatility – he is able to play at right-back or as a holding midfielder, as well as centre-back – also increases his value.

Heitinga had told Dutch publication De Telegraaf that Manchester City are interested in signing him, saying, "I have heard the reports, but nothing is serious as yet,

"City have ambitions and I am always looking to move to a bigger club.

"But I have a contract for four years, without any get-out clause in it, so I will fully focus myself on Everton.  I am very happy at this club."

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City "have been left bemused" by Heitinga's claims.  The local newspaper does not believe that Heitinga has ever been on Roberto Mancini's list of summer transfer targets.

If that's true then that's only Heitinga and David Weir that City aren't interested in buying

Heitinga will have some explaining to do when he gets back from S.Africa. Funny how all of a sudden those two players Heitinga and Pienaar feel their stock has risen. Everton were playing crap when those two players were fully fit earlier in the season-only improving when we got our REAL players back Arteta Jageielka, and Cahill. Cast yer minds back lads to were we got you from rotting in reserve teams
