SWP - A Cassell product
Tottenham are set to approach Manchester City 's Youth Academy Director Jim Cassell to oversee the development of the next generation of Spurs players, according to the Daily Mirror.
Tottenham have been looking to boost their youth set-up for some time and were reported to have offered former Portsmouth manager Paul Hart a role before he took the manager's job at QPR.
Cassell has been in charge of Manchester City 's academy since 1997 and has overseen the development of a glut of talent including Shaun Wright-Phillips , Micah Richards , Stephen Ireland and Joey Barton . Cassell's fledglings were responsible for lifting the FA Youth Cup for Manchester City in 2008.
Although Cassell has spent the bulk of his career in the north-west as a player at Bury and a scout at Oldham Athletic, the Daily Mirror reports that Tottenham are confident of persuading him to move to London and his name is "top of the list at White Hart Lane."
