Doumbia - Set for White Hart Lane?
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has intensified his interest in Ivory Coast sensation Seydou Doumbia . He faces a battle with German side Hoffenheim for the 21 year old's signature, but the biggest obstacle could be Doumbia's willingness to stay at current Swiss club Young Boys of Bern.
Spurs scouts reportedly watched the lightning quick striker for the second time recently and Redknapp is keen to beat Hoffenheim, who are pushing for a Champions League spot next season, to Doumbia's signature. It is understood that Hoffenheim have already tabled a bid and hope to seal the deal during the January transfer window.
Redknapp hopes that the Young Boys star will prefer a Premier League move and a Champions League push with the White Hart Lane club.
The 21 year old burst onto the scene last season and has scored a stunning 18 goals already this season. Several English, French, German and Russian clubs have been linked with the lightning quick striker and Chelsea were reported to have offered Young Boys €22M for his signature.
Yet Doumbia's agent Jean-Bernard Beytrison insisted last week that he will remain at Young Boys until June at least, "He will remain at Bern until June… I had already said this last summer and nobody believed me."
Alain Baumann, manager of Young Boys also helped put the record straight. "We have resisted some huge proposals…and we'll do it again this winter. We want to win the title and we need to have Seydou."
