Despite the close of the transfer window in Europe yesterday, reports in Holland this morning have claimed that AC Milan are preparing a 40 million euro bid for Ajax forward Luis Suarez .

The 22-year-old Uruguayan international is having a fine season, having claimed 14 goals and provided 10 assists in 25 games.

Suarez joined Ajax at the start of the 2007/2008 season after impressing at FC Groningen during the previous campaign. He scored 17 goals for the Amsterdam giants last season and is believed to be looking to play at a higher level.

The 5.9ft supporting striker said in December: "My goal is to play for a big club. That is why I opted for Ajax, Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Zlatan Ibrahimovic all used Ajax to move to bigger clubs."
