Arsenal have rewarded Alexandre Song with a new long term contract after some impressive displays in the opening months of the 2009/2010 season.

Song signed a new "long term contract" with the Gunners in June 2008 and a report in The Sun this morning claims the Cameroon international has extended his deal to the end of the 2014/2015 season.

An "Arsenal source" is quoted in The Sun: "He has earned a starting place. His workrate and application have been exemplary. It is an indication the boss believes he can form a key part of his team in the long term."

After playing 42 matches last season, Song has established himself as the first choice defensive midfielder in the Arsenal midfield. He has played 17 games in 2009/2010, providing one assist.

* Arsenal are also considering whether to give Henri Lansbury a new deal, the young midfielder is currently on loan at Watford but his deal at the Premier League side runs out at the end of the season.
