According to reports in the Daily Mirror and Daily Express this morning, at least four London clubs are keen on signing Charlton Athletic ’s highly-rated 17-year-old Jonjo Shelvey .

The Daily Mirror claim Arsenal, Spurs and West Ham are chasing the hard-running box-to-box centre midfielder whilst the Daily Express add that Fulham are interested.

Only last Friday, on the morning of his 17th birthday, Shelvey signed a contract extension with the struggling Championship club, which means he is contracted to Charlton until the end of season 2010/2011.

Shelvey became Charlton’s youngest every player when he made his debut at the end of last season. The 6.ft central midfielder played last night in the 2-1 home defeat to Doncaster which marked his seventh league appearance of the Championship season.

Jonjo Shelvey is a box-to-box midfielder who is noted for his strong running, as well as playing in central midfield he can play behind the strikers where he can make an impact in the oppositions’ area. If Charlton are relegated at the end of this season it is believed they will let Shelvey go for 5 million euros.

The youngster, who has played for England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, has chipped in with one assist in the league this campaign (in the 2-0 win over Swansea in August) and also scored in the FA Cup third round against Norwich, which can be seen on the video below.
