Neven Subotic
According to a report in the Daily Mail this morning, "Arsenal are back on the trail of
Borussia Dortmund defender
Neven Subotic . Chief executive Ivan Gazidis was in Germany on Monday ready to make a £12m offer for the 20-year-old Serb."
Subotic is a 6.3ft central defender who was a revelation in the Bundesliga last season following his move from Mainz to
Borussia Dortmund for 3.5 million euros.
The Serbian international played 35 games during the 2008/2009 season, scoring six goals and providing one assist. Subotic also picked up four yellow cards.
Scouts in Germany speak very highly of Subotic: "He is a promising central defender, well built, and very good in the tackle. He also has the ability to score with his head. He's got really good feet for a player of his size, is a good passer of the ball, can receive it, and he's got a good range on his passing. Subotic also has the mentality and desire to play in the highest level."
Crucially, having spent some time in America growing up, Subotic speaks English which would aid his integration into English football. He is contracted to
Borussia Dortmund until the end of the 2013/2014 season, Everton have also been linked with a move for Subotic.
After choosing to play for Serbia rather than the USA at international level, Subotic scored his first goal for Serbia in a 2-0 World Cup qualification victory over the Faroe Islands in June, it can be seen on the video below.
