Barcelona have opened discussions with Valencia left winger David Silva , according to a report in the Sunday Times today.

As a result there is speculation that Robinho’s desire for a move to the Nou Camp in January will be dashed.

The treble winners of 2009/2009 are eager to strengthen the left side of their attack with Pep Guardiola reportedly looking to replace Thierry Henry.

David Silva is contracted to Valencia until the end of season 2012/2013 but could leave the Primera Division side due to their financial troubles.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals and provided two assists in 13 appearances for Valencia this season. Silva has also been linked with Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester United in recent months.
