Ribery, heading to Stamford Bridge?
Having been knocked back in their attempts to sign
Franck Ribery during the summer, Chelsea are set to make another bid for the French winger in the January transfer window, according a report in The Sun this morning.
Ian McGarry writes: "Chelsea will try to steal
Franck Ribery from under the nose of Real Madrid in the January transfer window... With the £37.5m signing of Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero all but tied up, the Blues will now focus on Ribery, also a top target for Manchester City."
McGarry adds: "sources close to Ribery, 26, claim Chelsea have offered a contract worth £172,000 a week, just under £1m more a year than Real. Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has told owner Roman Abramovich that the club can survive the impact of a probable transfer ban next summer - IF he can sign two new players in January. As a result, Chelsea are willing to spend up to £100m in the next available window."
Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has added to the speculation by suggesting Ribery could leave the Allianz Arena. "We want to create the conditions which give Franck the feeling that he can achieve something here in Munich. If he cannot see this potential, then he will leave."
Ribery is currently sidelined with an injury to his left knee that has restricted his playing time this season. In 2009/2010 he has played eight games, scored one goal and provided two assists.
