Rangers
The end of the Chilean Clausura championship is in turmoil. The Chilean Football Association (ANFP) suspended the championship semi-finals after Rangers opened a civil court case against their relegation.
Rangers were deducted three points earlier this month having fielded six foreign players in contravention of the rules which allow a maximum of five. Rangers' three point punishment placed them in the automatic relegation positions.
Since then Rangers launched a legal challenge in the city of Talca where the court ruled that promotion/ relegation play-offs be suspended. The unprecedented legal action led to the ANFP suspending the title semi-finals too. They have now turned to FIFA for help.
"We are communicating the fact and asking FIFA to apply the sanctions it deems appropriate according to its statutes," ANFP general manager Carlos Morales told Bio Bio radio.
Possible penalties include Rangers being banned from the Chilean league. Meanwhile the finale to the Clausura championship remains unresolved.
