The Portuguese Liga returns to action this weekend, here in brief, are five of the most intriguing transfers to keep an eye on.
Ramires – from Cruzeiro to Benfica
The Brazilian box-to-box midfielder could be a great addition to the Benfica midfield this season. After three seasons at Cruzeiro, Ramires is finally getting his chance on the European stage. He is a player who can both attack and defend. Benfica paid 7.5 million euros for Ramires and immediately slapped a 30 million euro fee for anyone eager to take him off their hands.
Keirrison – from Barcelona to Benfica (on loan)
Another Brazilian, who is already close to being a household name thanks to his goalscoring exploits. Barcelona signed him for 14 million euros after just two-and-a-half seasons in Brazil’s Serie A. During his spells with Coritiba and Palmeiras, he scored 41 goals and Benfica could well benefit from Barcelona’s decision to loan him out.
Matias Fernandez – From Villarreal to Sporting Lisbon
Fernandez has a lot to prove in Portugal. When he was signed by Villareal three seasons ago, Fernandez was expected to bang in the goals. Six goals later and Sporting Lisbon will be hoping Fernandez shows the form he displayed in Chile.
Radamel Falcao –From River Plate to Porto
Falcao is the direct replacement for Lisandro Lopez, who joined Lyon after two successful seasons at the Portuguese champions. The Colombian striker proved himself in Argentinean football and will need to prove these qualities (good dribbling, strength and a good character) with Porto.
Fernando Belluschi – From Olympiakos to Porto
Moved from Olympiakos to FC Porto for 5 million euros for only 50% of the player’s economic rights. The 25-year-old Argentinean attacking midfielder is similar to Matias Fernandez in that he didn’t show his best form in Greece and this is his chance to get his career back on track.
