Javier Mascherano
Following a summer of speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona, Argentine midfielder
Javier Mascherano has publicly declared he is not interested in a new Liverpool contract.
Reports over the summer linked Mascherano with a move to the Primera Division champions as it is believed he was hoping to ensure pay parity with some of the highest earners at Anfield.
Mascherano is widely quoted this morning: "I have never asked for a new contract. I already have a contract with Liverpool. I don't play for the money.”
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder added: "I play for me and to win things. Money is not important to me. Obviously I will not play for free but why should I?"
Mascherano is contracted to the Merseyside giants until the end of season 2011/2012.
