With Xabi Alonso’s move to Real Madrid edging ever closer, the Daily Mail claims this morning that Rafa Benitez will spend the money received from Los Blancos on two up and coming English players.

Liverpool have targeted Wigan central midfielder Lee Cattermole and Hull central defender Michael Turner as according to Chris Wheeler: "with FIFA planning to introduce a rule limiting clubs to five foreigners in their starting lineup, Benitez is believed to be concerned about the small number of English players in his squad."

Benitez is now expected to offer £12m for Cattermole who has already been the source of much speculation this summer after an impressive season at Wigan followed by some fine displays for England at the Under-21 European Championship.

Lee Cattermole, 21, played 33 games for Wigan last season, scoring once and providing two assists. He also picked up ten yellow cards and was sent off twice.

The Merseyside giants will bid £5.5m for Michael Turner who is also being tracked by Tottenham, Everton and Fulham.

Michael Turner played every game Premier League game for Hull during 2008/2009, scoring four goals and claiming one assist. The 25-year-old also picked up three yellow cards.

look see, arbeloa is in the last year of his contract and could have signed a pre-agreement with another club in january and walk away free next summer. £3.5m is better then nothing!!!
