Mattias Bjarsmyr
Highly-rated central defender
Mattias Bjarsmyr is set to play his last game for IFK Gothenburg (against AIK Stockholm) tonight before he moves to Greek giants Panathinaikos.
Reports in Sweden suggest the move was held up after IFK demanded a sell-on fee for Bjarsmyr.
The 23-year-old defender had attracted interest from the likes of Club Brugge and Rangers. He was out of contract at the end of 2009 and Panathinaikos will pay a minimal fee.
Bjarsmyr, one of the stars of Sweden’s Under-21 side that reached the semi-finals of the European Championship, has long been tipped for a move after establishing himself as one of the best defenders in Sweden.
