This week’s Special Report utilizes the enormous amounts of data on the IMScouting system to discover which league has the most amount of current international players.
To keep the data as up to date as possible, we have included only players that have played international football since the start of this season, including all the World Cup qualifiers since August 1, 2008.
Whilst there are some surprise results further down the Special Report, it will come as no shock to those who claim that the English Premiership is “the best in the world” to know that the top English division is by far and away the league with the most internationals.
A whopping 178 of players from the Premiership have played international football this season, a fact that was illustrated by the amount of Premiership players at Euro 2008 despite the English national team failing to qualify for Austria and Switzerland. On average each team in the Premiership has a whopping nine internationals.
Coming in second, with the only other league containing over 100 players, is the Bundesliga, which is a fair illustration of the strength of the German league which also did well in last week’s Special Report of
“average goals per game in every European league.”
Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s Primera Division come in joint third. In fourth, showing the strength and resurgence of Russian football, is the Russian Premier League which edges out some of Europe’s lesser leagues such as Holland and Scotland. And the Ukranian Premier League, in this Special Report, comes higher than some more respected leagues such as Turkey’s Super Lig and Portugal’s Liga bwin.
Nearer the bottom of the table, there is a clear indication of the standing of South American football. With poor results for both Brazil (eight internationals) and Argentina (12 internationals) which are a stark illustration of how many good young players leave these leagues even before they become internationals.
