Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has told Dutch magazine Voetbal International that he does not consider himself a natural striker and that he is still coming to terms with his central role in the Gunners 4-3-3 formation this season.

Following his fine form for Arsenal in recent weeks, Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk is now considering whether to play van Persie in the central striking role in the friendly match with Italy on Saturday.

Van Persie said: "I don’t see myself as a true out-and-out striker. Guys likes Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba they are real killers. I feel I play between a target striker and a supporting striker. I am a combination of both."

The 26-year-old striker added: "In the league I have now contributed seven assists and I am just as proud of these as the seven goals I have scored. I find it crucial to be effective in both spheres for the team."

When asked directly if he would be happy to start in a central attacking position for Holland on Saturday, van Persie said: "I am still developing in that position but I know I can play there if the coach needs me."

In both the Premier League and Champions League this season, van Persie has played 15 matches for Arsenal, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists.
