Reports in Italy today suggest that manager Luciano Spalletti has signed a secret agreement to join Russian top flight side Zenit St Petersburg in November.

Italian newspaper La Gazetta Dello Sport reveals that the Italian coach signed a contract with the Russians during the last month.

The 50-year-old has been without a job since he resigned from Roma last August after four years at the helm.

Spalletti has been linked with some major European clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, but the Zenit St Petersburg rumors have continued and La Gazetta Dello Sport understands that Spalletti signed a two-year contract with the Russian giants worth nearly 8 million Euros per year.

The Italian newspaper reports that the Italian manger has a clause inserted into his contract, allowing him to walk away from Zenit if the club do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Zenit have made an impressive recovery since their horrible start of the season, and now they are in third place in the Russian Premier League. If they qualify, Spalletti will join the club in time to start preparation with a very clear and specific agenda in his mind. If his demands regarding new signings and professional staff hiring will not be accepted he once again, will be able to leave at any time.

It has also been suggested that his first move as Zenit's head coach will be to sign two of his former players at Roma, midfielders Simone Perrotta and David Pizarro but all will be revealed in the next few weeks.
