Stan Kroenke, the largest single shareholder in Premier League giants Arsenal, is set to increase his holding in the club this week, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph this morning.

Paul Kelso writes: "Kroenke will pick up several hundred shares in the coming days, with some of them coming from the estate of the late Sir Ernest Harrison, former chief executive of telecoms company Racal Electronics. The American is in London this week, and will attend Arsenal's annual meeting tomorrow."

Kelso adds: "Last week Kroenke bought 90 shares to increase his stake to 28.86 per cent, just 646 shares below the threshold beyond which he would have to launch a full bid for the club. His purchase of shares from the Harrison estate will take him closer to that mark, but there is no expectation that the American is willing, or able, to launch a takeover, which would cost him around £460 million, in the short term."

The Amercan has been involved in a power struggle for control of the Gunners with Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. Kroenke looks to have outmaneuvered Usmanov as alongside ally Danny Fiszman and others he owns 50% of the shares in the club.
