Undoubtedly the "Cinderella story" of the Swedish season so far is the rise and rise of Patrik Ingelsten , formerly a right winger now playing up front who is currently the top goal scorer in the Allsvenskan in Sweden with 15 goals.

Ingelsten, 26, has a phenomenal record so far this campaign, scoring 19 goals for league leaders Kalmar FF in 24 games, his previous highest total was nine for IFK Varnamo in 2001.

And August has seen Ingelsten produce probably the best football of his career - as he has bagged eight goals in seven games.

With his confidence at an all-time high it was Belgian side Gent who were on the receiving end as Ingelsten almost single-handedly won the recent two-legged tie in the Uefa Cup.

In the first leg at Gent, Ingelsten scored in the 81st minute to give the Swedish team some hope for the second-leg as they returned home 2-1 down. Two weeks later a second-half hat-trick ripped through the Belgian side as FF Kalmar ran out 4-0 winners to set up an intriguing clash with Feyenoord in the next round.

Scouts from all across Europe have been alerted and a big display against Feyenoord could well see Ingelsten move in the January transfer window for around $1,5k. Ingelsten speaks English and like most Swedish exports can be expected to settle comfortably into his new surroundings. According to the IMScouting database, Ingelsten's contract expires in 2009 and he earns $3k per month

Much of the credit for Ingelsten's breakthrough season must go to FF Kalmar manager Nanne Bergstrand. The 52-year-old former manager of Helsingborgs was forced to change his attacking options following the departure of Cesar Santin to FC Kobenhavn.

The departed Brazilian striker had scored nine goals in fourteen games for FF Kalmar and the inspired decision by Bergstrand combined with the form of Ingelsten has ensured that Kalmar sit atop the Allsvensaken in Sweden.

Playing on the shoulders of the last defender, Ingelsten has plundered his goals thanks to excellent acceleration and pace combined with good positioning and movement. At 5'8 he isn't great in the air, but he makes up for this with fine technique and creativity.

The 26-year-old winger-cum-striker is the leading scorer in Sweden, five ahead of former Celtic and Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson. The next couple of months could be crucial in the career of the new Swedish striking sensation as Kalmar look to clinch the league title and progress into the UEFA Cup group stages.
