Mesut Ozil
Mesut Ozil’s profile received another boost on Saturday as he set up Germany’s solitary goal in Russia and produced another impressive performance in the crucial World Cup qualifier.
Werder Bremen sports director Klaus Allofs is quoted in Bild newspaper this morning: "We want to keep a player like Mesut. The past has shown that we do not always hold on to players but we hope it will be different."
Reports in Germany suggest Bremen will struggle to hold on to Ozil. The Bundesliga side have offered the playmaker a five-year contract extension but negotiations are on hold.
According to Bild, talks over a new contract will resume in February or March next year and a detailed timetable does not exist for negotiations.
Ozil, 20, is contracted to
Werder Bremen until the end of 2010/2011 and if he does not sign a new deal before next summer a number of clubs will surely submit bids.
Manchester United have been tracking him since before joining Bremen and Manchester City and Sevilla are also reportedly interested.
Mesut Ozil was named as an IMScouting Player to Watch in October 2008, a full scouting report can be seen
