The Daily Mirror have claimed this morning that "Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is making Marseille's centre-back Ronald Zubar his first big Premier League signing in a £2.5million deal."

The 23-year-old central defender came through the ranks at Caen and moved to Marseille for the start of the 2006/2007 season.

Last season, Zubar played 26 games, scoring one goal. He also picked up eight yellow cards and was also sent-off once as Marseille came second in Ligue 1.

The 6.1ft defender can also play right back and as a defensive midfielder and had one season left on his contract at OM. Scouts in France describe him as a "very athletic defender who is decent in the air and physically strong."

Zubar has previously been linked with moves to both Lyon and Arsenal and although he has yet to play for the full French team he did play at Under-21 level. His younger brother, Stephane, is also a footballer and plays for FC Vaslui in Romania.

Ronald Zubar’s solitary goal in 2008/2009 came in a 2-0 win over Le Havre in January, it can be seen on the video below at 0.15.
