In a rare interview since leaving Anfield in the summer, Spanish midfielder
Xabi Alonso has admitted he was relieved to join
Real Madrid .
Alonso told the magazine “Hala Madrid, "I felt that after five years at a historic club like Liverpool, I needed a change."
The deep lying midfielder added: "Coming to
Real Madrid was a very important incentive. Five years ago I had the opportunity to come but it didn’t happen and now it felt like the right time."
On
Real Madrid ’s start to the 2009/2010 season, Alonso said: “There are certain things that can be improved. Now the results indicate we are doing better but we must still improve as we are ambitious."
Alonso also said that
Real Madrid can win the Primera Division and "hopefully we can win a title" this season.
The 27-year-old midfielder has played 12 matches for
Real Madrid in the Primera Division and Champions League this season, providing three assists.
