Belgian side Gent have confirmed that Zenit St Petersburg have outbid FC Twente in the race to sign their Costa Rican winger Bryan Ruiz.

Ivan De Witte, the chairman of Gent, said: "Ruiz has indicated he would like to go to Holland but we have received a higher bid from Zenit and therefore that is more interesting."

On a potential move to Russia, De Witte said he wants to decide Ruiz’s future this week, "it has lasted long enough."

Ruiz has been at Gent since 2006/2007, in 2007/2008 he scored 11 goals in 31 games and last season the 23-year-old claimed 12 goals in 34 appearances. The left winger also chipped in with 13 assists last season.

Heerenveen are also reportedly interested in signing Ruiz.
