Univ de Chile3 : 0Liga de QuitoEduardo VargasGoals: 2Assists: 0+
Universidad de Chile have accomplished another outstanding landmark in their incredible 2011 campaign, after defeating LDU Quito 3-0 in Santiago (4-0 aggregate), being crowned Copa Sudamericana winners, their first ever continental title. La U finished the tournament undefeated, and has won every single one of their home matches.

The club's perfect year started with winning the Chilean Torneo Apertura last June, in an exhilarating 4-3 win over bitter rivals Universidad Catolica. In the still ongoing Torneo Clausura they have so far proven indisputable dominance, finishing the regular season undefeated in 17 matches, and leading the table with an 8 point margin. They are currently on an ongoing sequence of 35 games without defeat in all competitions.

Their Argentinian manager, Jorge Sampaoli, is a self-proclaimed disciple of former Argentina and Chile national coach Marcelo Bielsa, and has his team playing an offensive and unorthodox 3-2-4-1 formation, so far with incredible success. Their offensive and innovative style of play has earned them the nickname "Barcelona of South America", and like Barcelona's Lionel Messi, U. de Chile also has one player who stands out as the jewel in their crown; we are of course referring to the mercurial Chilean sensation Eduardo Vargas.

The phenomenal 22 year-old forward has been his team's most prominent player throughout their Copa Sudamericana campaign, has scored the only goal in the final's first leg in Quito, and reached the second leg when only one goal away from comparing the competition's 10 goal striking record. Vargas didn't wait long, scoring the first after only 3 minutes play. Another magnificent effort by the talisman, bursting through the right flank, ended with Lorenzetti scoring the second, but the best was saved for last. In the 87th minute Vargas received a ball in center midfield, 35 yards from goal, dribbled his way through two defenders and flicked the ball over the keeper. A glorious night for U. de Chile, capped off by Vargas' setting a new Sudamericana scoring record, with a sensational Golazo.

Spartak Moskva3 : 0Lokomotiv MoskvaEmmanuel EmenikeGoals: 3Assists: 0+

We had a tough time choosing this week's best individual performance. In England, Robin van Persie stepped up to his new role as Arsenal's top-gun, scoring 3 in the 5-3 victory at Stamford Bridge. In Brazil, Neymar scored 4 goals (though 2 from the penalty spot) as Santos thrashed Atletico PR 4-1. But our performance of the week took place in frosty Russia.

With just 2 rounds left, the Russian Championship race was to be decided between Zenith St. Petersburg and CSKA, but more than just local prestige was fought for this Saturday afternoon in Moscow's Olympic stadium, in the hot derby match between Spartak and Lokomotiv. Both clubs, alongside local Dinamo, were battling head to head to secure the 3rd league place together with a spot in UEFA Champions League 2nd qualification round. A win would have put Lokomotiv six points from its rival, terminating their Continental aspirations. But the final result showed 3-0 to Spartak, all goals scored by their mid-season arrival, Emmanuel Emenike (24).

The prolific Nigerian striker started his career with local Delta Force, afterwards playing in South-Africa's Black Aces and Cape-Town. In 2009 he was loaned to Turkish 2nd league side KDC Karabukspor, scoring 16 goals and helping them to achieve promotion on his first season. KDC completed his purchase for just 300k Euros, and his scoring form continued in the Turkish Super-League, scoring 14 goals in 23 appearances. After an impressive scoring tally of 30 in 51 games for KDC, Emenike was bought at the end of the 2010-2011 season by Fenerbahce for 9 m euro, but the Turkish giants were forced to sell him before playing even one match, due to the corruption scandal which resulted with their ban from the Champions League.

Spartak Moscow picked up the prolific Nigerian for an amazing fee of 11.5m euro. His performance this Saturday, which may lead them into the Champions League next year, marks him as one of the Russian league's hottest current players. It was his 6th goal in 8 appearances in the Russian Premier League.

US Lecce3 : 4AC MilanKevin-Prince BoatengGoals: 3Assists: 0+

It was the 6:1 astonishing win of City in the Manchester Derby that shocked the football world at the weekend, but the best one-man-show came from Ac Milan`s Kevin-Prince Boateng who scored a fabulous hat-trick in just 14 minutes and earned the Italian champions a 4:3 win against Lecce after a remarkable comeback.

The home side, who scored just 3 goals in its first 6 matches of the Serie A season, went into the half-time break with a sensational 3:0 lead and the Rossoneri seemed destined to suffer their 3rd loss of the campaign. Boateng had different ideas.

Just 3 minutes after coming as a half-time substitute, the Ghanaian International smacked a left-foot missile under the bar from eight yards. 6 minutes later (55) Boateng cut the deficit to just one goal with a remarkable shot with the outside of his right foot that swerved into the near top corner. The hat-trick (63) was completed in a less spectacular fashion with a low drive from inside the box, but neither Milan players or fans really cared. Lecce was devastated and Mario Yepes headed home the winner in the 83rd minute.

The 24 year-old Boateng, who has never scored more than one goal in a match throughout his career, said after his outrageous display: "our comeback was incredible. Also, for me it is a huge satisfaction. This is not an answer to any criticism that I've received; there's no need for that I started on the bench because of a knee problem, but the coach gave me a chance. I want to dedicate the hat-trick to my son."

Fluminense Rio Janeiro3 : 1Coritiba FBCFredGoals: 3Assists: 0+

As his team played its home match against Coritiba last Thursday, Fred gave one of the best performances of his career.

He opened the scoring in the 24th minute, taking control of a long cross sent into the box by right-back Mariano, bouncing it once on his chest, and while closely marked sent the ball into the far corner with an overhead shot. Golazo!! Coritiba managed to equalize with a direct free-kick by Marcos Aurelio just before half-time, but Fred was there to put his team back in the lead in the 72nd minute with a low strike from inside the box, the assist again coming from Mariano. He sealed the victory 3 minutes later, turning in Rafael Sobis' cross with a powerful header, and completing his Hat-Trick.

This Sunday Fred gave Fluminense another important victory, away against Palmeiras. Scoring first in the 10th minute with a diving header, he later eliminated Jorge Valdivia's penalty equalizer with a typical strike from inside the box, making it 5 goals in just 3 days.

Fred is mostly known to European fans from his days with Lyon, who signed him for 15m Euros in 2005. He played four seasons with the French side, but after an injury he lost his place to one Karim Benzema, and was released by his own request. Returning to Brazil, he regained his prolific form with Fluminense, of which he is current Captain, scoring 35 goals in 62 matches so far. Fluminense are now 4 points away from the top of the league, with 8 games left to play.

Fred is also one of Mano Menezes' favorites as Brazil's center striker, and has been playing in rotation with Borges, Hulk and Leandro Damiao.

Chile U203 : 1Venezuela U20Fernando AmorebietaGoals: 1Assists: 0+

After the previous 18 World-Cup qualifying matches between the teams ended in favor of the Albiceleste, Athletic Bilbao`s Central defender secured a 1:0 shocking win for the hosts.

Fernando Amorebieta headed the ball into the back of the net in the 61th minute after a corner by captain Juan Arango, and handed Argentina its first lose after just 2 rounds. Several days earlier Alejandro Sabella`s men started the campaign with a 4:1 win over Chile and were clear favorites to keep a perfect record.

Incredibly, Amorebieta scored in only his second appearance for Venuzuela, after his debut on September the 2nd this year in a 0:1 friendly lose against... Argentina. The 26-year old, who was born in Venezuela to a Spanish parents, played 4 times for Spain`s U-19 team and in 158 official matches for Bilbao since 2005 failed to score even once.

Venezuela opened the campaign with a 0:1 defeat against Ecuador, and is the only team in the 10-nation South American Football Confederation never to have qualified for the World-Cup finals.

Malaga CF3 : 2Getafe CFJulio BaptistaGoals: 1Assists: 1+

Julio Baptista secured a 3:2 dramatic win for Malaga CF over Getafe in the dying minutes of Saturday night's La Liga match, and he did it in style with an incredible shot, after also providing the assist for Enzo Maresca's equalizer couple of minutes earlier. What a way to score your first goal of the season.

The fabulous strike by the powerful and versatile Brazilian, known as "the Beast", left Malaga in 4th place with 13 points from 6 games, same as Real Madrid and Valencia. Julio Baptista, who along his impressive career has played for Sao Paulo, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Roma, joined the ambitious millionaires from Malaga in January this year for 2 million Euro, scoring 9 goals in his debut season.

But even in the standards of someone who has won the Copa Libertadores, Confederations cup and the Spanish championship, twice each, It has been an extraordinarily happy weekend. After witnessing the birth of his baby daughter Isabella on Thursday, he went on to celebrate his own 30th birthday by giving one of the best performances of his career. "Everything happened at the same time. More emotional than this? It`s impossible", Baptista summed things up.

"The best goal of my life"

A day later, on Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen's Eren Derdiyok supplied a magnificent overhead effort of his own, as his team beat Wolfsburg 3:1. The Swiss International Striker of Kurdish descent, who is on Newcastle United`s radar, reached a tally of 23 goals in just over 2 seasons with the German club and announced: "It was the best goal of my career".

Derdiyok broke a 1:1 deadlock in the 65th minute when he stretched to take down a long pass at the edge of the box, flipped the ball back over his head with two defenders around him and buried it in the back of the net with an overhead kick. Wow!

PSV Eindhoven7 : 1Roda JC KerkradeDries MertensGoals: 4Assists: 0+

The Barcelona and Real Madrid stars scored hat-tricks at the weekend, but PSV Eindhoven`s Belgian sensation Dries Mertens went one better in the 7:1 thrashing of poor Roda.

Dries Mertens, who arrived this summer from FC Utrecht for an estimated fee of 7 million Euros, amassed 11 goals and 5 assists in just 7 Eredivisie matches this season, almost half of PSV`s tally of 23 strikes.

This weekend, the right footed left forward opened his account in the 20th minute with a great 20 meter free kick into the top corner, and 13 minutes later completed a half-time brace after cutting from the left side into center and sending a 22 meter drive into poor Pawel Kieszek`s bottom corner.

Kevin Strootman, who arrived with Mertens from Utrecht, delivered a short free-kick pass in the 58th minute and the Belgian International sent a one touch shot from 15 meters to complete his 2nd hat-trick of the season after the one he had against  Excelsior Rotterdam in late August. One minute before the final whistle the 24 year-old was honored with a penalty and completed an unforgettable day.

Mertens, providing goal or assist every 40 minutes this season, is the leading scorer in the dutch top league, with 4 strikes more than Twente`s Marc Janko. Despite his superb form, PSV is ranked only 4th in the Eredivisie table, though just two points behind leaders Twente.

TSG Hoffenheim3 : 1VfL WolfsburgRoberto Firmino Barbosa de OliveiraGoals: 2Assists: 0+

The 19-year old starlet scored a wonder goal and then added another, leading TSG Hoffenheim to a 3:1 win against VFL Wolfsburg.

The attacking midfielder, who signed a 4 years contract with the Bundesliga side last winter after being bought for 4 million Euro from Brazilian side Figueirense Florianopolis, started the season in spectacular fashion, providing 4 goals and 1 assist in only 6 matches.

On Saturday, Ryan Babel started things off after 20 minutes with a superb low 25 meter strike. 3 minutes later, Roberto Firmino made a 1-2 with Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson, chipped the ball against one defender with his foot, headed against another and finished with a superb lob from 9 meters into Marwin Hitz's net. A goal of the season contender from the starlet  who was also watched by Arsenal and Manchester United before going to Germany.

Firmino, who can be also used on the wings, completed his brace in the 85th minute, taking advantage of a mistake in the VfL Wolfsburg`s defense, as well as his great speed. Firmino ran from almost the half way line, leaving the defenders no chance to catch him, and supplied a cool low shot into the net to secure victory.

Firmino showed his class also during goal celebrations with chiky dance moves, as you can expect from a Brazilian. He also earned himself a yellow after scoring his first, taking his shirt off.  "I was so happy", he cited, "I want to show after each goal a new dance. After the second goal i thought I'd rather not take off the jersey again."

Wigan Athletic2 : 0Queens Park RangersFranco Di SantoGoals: 2Assists: 0+

22-year-old Argentine starlet, Franco Di Santo, helped Wigan to a 2-nil win over Premier League newcomers QPR, scoring two amazing personal efforts.

The former Chelsea striker scored the first just four minutes before the half-time break and added his second in the second-half.

Both goals scored from just outside the box, executing two accurate long-range stunners and leaving the field to a standing ovation after being substituted in the 69th minute of the match.

These are the first goals of the season for the 1.93m-tall attacker, who is off to a good start this season, starting for Wigan in all three matches so far.

Di Santo arrived at Wigan from Chelsea last year, signing a three-year-contract with the club for an estimated transfer fee of around £2M, after playing on-loan for Blackburn in season 2009/10.

After an uncertain debut season, struggling to find his place in the teams rotation, it seems that this year the club has shown a lot of confidence in the young player, giving him the opportunity to become a starter for the Latics.

Maccabi Netanya1 : 4Maccabi HaifaViham AmashaGoals: 4Assists: 0+

26-year-old striker Viham Amasha scored all four goals for Maccabi Haifa in their outstanding 4-1 away win over Maccabi Netanya in the first round of the Israeli Ligat Ha'al.

Amasha scored the first goal in the first-half, after Haifa were down by a goal and added a hat-trick in the second half, scoring two goals with his head and two more facing the goal.

Amasha had established his career at Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona, last season showing a real improvement in his abilities- scoring 14 goals in 24 appearances and becoming one of the biggest attacking forces in Israel.

The 1.77m-tall had arrived at Maccabi Haifa this summer signing a four-year-deal with the Israeli champions and he has already made quite an impact on his new team.

Amasha scored a hat-trick in his first appearance at Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League qualifying stages and he has since then added another goal against Genk in a Champions League play-off match.

After seeing his great current form, Israeli national coach Luis Fernandez, has hinted that he would like to see Amasha represent Israel at the international level, but for that Amasha will need to acquire an Israeli passport.

Viham has already represented Israel at various youth levels, but due to changes in FIFA regulations, to be included in the senior squad the Druze will need a permanent passport from the Israeli state, a document which he has so far refused to acquire.
