If -like me- you have a soft spot for cars, chances are you’ve tried a bunch of ways to look for your dream car. Maybe you searched through a particular style, a certain price range, or perhaps you’ve taken up the alphabetical route.

In this case, here’s a list of the top 12 cars that start with S to help you on your mission.

1. Subaru


Established in 1953, Subaru is a Japanese car manufacturer. The company is among the largest automakers on a global scale in terms of production.

Subaru cars are famous for the frequent featuring of the boxer engine design for the majority of their automobiles over 1500 cc.

The company is also notable for building turbocharged models of their passenger vehicles including the Legacy XT, Impreza WRX, Ascent, and Outback XT.

The most successful and popular car made by Subaru is the Impreza, which was first released on the market in 1992 and has been in production ever since.

2. Suzuki


Founded in 1909, the Suzuki Motor Corporation -or Suzuki for short- is a Japanese manufacturer of automobiles.

This multinational company is also one of the biggest automakers worldwide by production capacity.

Suzuki pumps out a wide variety of vehicles including 4-wheel drive, all-terrain, motorcycles, wheelchairs, outboard marine motors, and many types of internal combustion engines.



Established in 1954, SsangYong is a South Korean automobile company. Headquartered in Seoul, it ranks as the 4th-largest manufacturer of cars in South Korea.

SSANGYONG is owned by the Indian international automaker, Mahindra & Mahindra. The company produces a diverse range of vehicles such as passenger cars, SUVs, and recreational vehicles.

Among the most popular releases by SsangYong are the SUVs Actyon and Rexton, Chairman sedan, and Stavic People Mover.



Formed in 1891, Scania AB is a Swedish car manufacturer of commercial automobiles, especially trucks and buses.

It was formerly called AB Scania-Vabis and is the product of the merger between Maskinfabriksaktiebolaget Scania and Vagnfabriksaktiebolaget i Södertelge (Vabis).

The Volkswagen group, however, has been the owner of the company since 2014.

SCANIA also makes engines besides heavy vehicles and offers different services such as driver training, insurance, vehicle financing, and customized maintenance.



Founded in 1984, Saleen Automotive -or Saleen for short- is an American automaker that’s well-known for producing luxurious supercars and high-performance vehicle parts.

Back in its early years, Saleen Automotive was called Saleen Autosport. The company underwent a merger operating in 2013 and became a publicly held company.

However, the original founder of the brand, Stephen M. Saleen still owns the majority of shares.



SEAT is a Spanish automobile company established in 1950 and headquartered in Martorell, Catalonia, Spain. After Peugeot, this is the 2nd-largest automaker in Spain.

Additionally, it’s the only major car company in Spain that produces the internal parts of its vehicles.

SEAT has sold over 16 million of its cars since the 1950s, with the most successful model being the Ibiza as it accounts -alone- for the sale of more than 4 million units up to our time.

The brand has been owned by the German group Volkswagen since 1986. If you’re searching for compact cars, SEAT is a great brand for you.



Commonly called SKODA, SKODA Auto is an automobile manufacturer based in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. The company was founded in 1895, and in the 1990s, it started to privatize.

Then in 2000, the Volkswagen group fully became the parent owner of SKODA. With the experience of over 125 years in the industry, the company made a worldwide reputation for its creations.

SKODA automobiles have a thriving market in more than 100 countries. In 2018, the global sales revenue reached 17.3 billion euros, a 4.4 percent jump from the year before.

Next up on our list of cars that start with S is SPYKER. This is a Dutch automobile manufacturer of hand-built vehicles with its headquarters located in Zeewolde, Netherlands.

This company isn’t controlled or related to the old SPYKER that went bankrupt back in 1929. However, the modern SPYKER company only legally owns the brand’s name, motto, and logo.

The SPYKER C8 is the first car made by the company and it comes in a wide array of configurations and versions. In 2014, this company declared bankruptcy because of the falling sales, but in 2015, it reverted the bankruptcy declaration.

Nowadays, it’s well-recognized for producing high-end sports cars.



Established in 1937, SAAB Automobile AB is a Swedish automobile manufacturer. It’s commonly referred to as SAAB and is headquartered in Trollhättan, Sweden.

The brand moved from one parent company to another over the years of its activity, which included General Motors; the Chinese motorcar empire.

In 2012, SAAB went bankrupt and was taken over by NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden). Nowadays, the vehicles operating under the SAAB company name are different from the ones previously made by the company that died in 2012.

STEEDA was founded in 1988 and soon became the leading brand in Ford performance products. It specializes in designing, engineering parts for the Ford Fusion, Mustang, Fiesta, Focus, and Ford Trucks.

STEEDA is noted as the biggest privately-owned worldwide operation for Ford performance products.

11. Sauber Mercedes

From Switzerland, we’re looking at Sauber Motorsport. Founded in 1970, this motorsports engineering brand is well-known for partnering with Mercedes-Benz in 1989.

The most famous fruit of this collaboration is the gorgeous Sauber-Mercedes C9. In 1989, this race car won both the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Lemans race.

12. Soleil
